What to know about the Colorado Springs clinic massacre
The Aurora, Colo., shooting at a Planned Parenthood clinic in December left 12 dead and more than 70 wounded, many of them critically.
At least one suspect was killed.
Now, the FBI is probing the attack as part of its ongoing probe into possible ties between the shooter and a foreign terror group.
President Donald Trump has expressed confidence that investigators will find a connection between the suspect and the so-called Islamic State group, or ISIS, which is also known as ISIL.
“We are looking at everything,” Trump said on Wednesday.
“We have a lot of evidence, and we are very confident we will be able to find that connection.
And we will get to the bottom of it.”
At least one of the alleged gunmen was captured, but authorities have yet to name the man.
A few days before the shooting, a white van carrying the suspect crashed into a crowd of people at a Denver Planned Parenthood, killing two people and injuring dozens more.
Aurora Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said on Thursday that he has received information that the suspect in the Denver attack was a Colorado resident.
“He’s a suspect in an incident that occurred at the Planned Parenthood,” Schmadrer said.
“There are no known connections to the terrorist organization.”
Schmaderer noted that a motive for the attack was not immediately clear.
The attack on Planned Parenthood drew the attention of the FBI, which has been investigating possible links between the terror group and Islamic extremists.
A special prosecutor appointed by Trump has launched a federal probe into the attack.
The Colorado Springs, Colo.-based Planned Parenthood clinics were set up to provide abortions to low-income women, and there were no known links between Planned Parenthood and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL, according to the organization.
A law signed by Trump in June requires abortion clinics to meet safety standards.
The Planned Parenthood attack also sparked an outcry in Colorado, which had one of strictest restrictions on abortion in the nation.
A similar attack last year at a women’s health clinic in Texas prompted a new law requiring abortion clinics in the state to meet similar standards.
